“There have always been wars and there is nothing that can be done about it”

That widespread notion is decisively disproven by these summaries of 180 wars that have been stopped or prevented since 1990. Many organizations and individuals have found ways to resolve conflicts and to make peace. We can learn a lot from them about how to make peace in the face of conflict in different kinds of situations.

Nevertheless, warfare continues to plague the world in many countries. We can do better! The book Peace and Conflict Since 1991 lists 180 peacebuilding organizations and 84 funders. They work largely independently. We can make even more progress toward ending the 50 or so wars that remain with more cooperative action based on the abundant evidence of what has worked in the past.
