War is Boring (2018) – Republished in Defense Maven (2018)

I rarely get to choose the title of articles such as this, and this one in particular is not a favourite. The article, however, tells the unlikely (almost unbelievable) story of the wartime career of a soldier in the British Army, Fitzroy McClean. His exploits took him around the world during a truly global conflict, he rose from the rank of private in 1941 to brigadier in 1945, and received distinguished medals from the UK, France, Soviet Union, and Yugoslavia. Throughout the war he was also an elected member of parliament.
