Centar za sigurnosne studije – BiH/Centre for Security Studies – Bosnia and Herzegovina (2018)
In this paper, written during my time working with CSS – BiH, I explain the history of the regimental system and trace the developments that led to this method of organisation being employed by the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH). The paper draws from elements of my PhD research with a more general understanding of British military history to provide an historical overview of the regimental system and the ways in which it has been adopted and adapted by a variety of armies, including those of Canada and India.
With this context established, the paper provides unprecedented insights into the decisions and processes that led to the regimental system being selected as the best path forward for Bosnia and Herzegovina. The paper concludes with an assessment of the success of this system in effectively organising the AFBiH, before offering some modest suggestions for improvements.
